Living on Stilts
Kampong Phluk, Cambodia is a floating village in Siem Reap province on the Tonle Sap River.
The families eke out a living by fishing. It is fascinating to see these people living their lives in a watery setting.
During the midyear monsoon the lake is 30 feet deep. When it drains in the fall it is waist high. The changeable river forever retraces its past, a metaphor for Cambodia, a nation that cannot seem to break free of its unhappy history.
